Gereg
Jones Muller
Master-at-Arms for the SRS
Born in
1955, Gereg has been teaching international blade arts for over thirty
years. He’s been practicing the sword since the 1960s, in a wide variety
of styles, and he has applied himself to a world of other martial arts
since the early ‘70s.
The living teachers to whom he owes the
most are Rik Scott (formerly with U.S. Army Special Forces), Conn MacLir
(former bouncer in a Los Angeles biker bar) and Takashi Tomasu (local
Aikido sensei). The past master who’s inspired him most is
Musashi Miyamoto, with George Silver not far behind; but Gereg’s actual
swordplay more closely resembles historical illustrations from the
manuals of Yagyu Munenori and Joachim Meyer.
His favourite weapon? “Whatever one
happens to be closest.” However, he shows a preference for two-sword
techniques in his practise.
The European concept of the Renaissance
man and the Japanese ideal of bunbu ichi- “pen and sword in
harmony”- reflect a basic principle of his practise. Gereg plays several
musical instruments, and has performed traditional and original music at
Renaissance Faires, pubs, and the Ben Lomond Highland Games.
